Research and Pedagogical Interests: I work in the areas of mathematics that concern themselves with the behavior of random systems. This includes the field of statistics, which uses randomly sampled data to try to draw conclusions about the population being sampled from; probability theory, which lays the groundwork for understanding the nature of randomness; stochastic processes, which studies how random systems evolve through time; and the field of finance, in which stochastic processes are used to model the behavior of financial assets. I have always found these research areas to be beautiful in their mathematical theory, and fascinating from the standpoint of their usefulness in the non-academic world.

Research and Pedagogical Interests: My interests are in history of mathematics and numerical methods. Currently, my major research work in history of mathematics has been devoted to producing a translation of James Gregory's Geometriae Pars Universalis. Most would be surprised to know that this 17th century geometry text contains the first published proof of the fundamental theorem of calculus (albeit in geometric form). Portions of this translation are available on-line here. (A rough draft of a translation of the remaining portions of the Geometriae Pars Universalis can be found here.) I also have a paper that explains some of these results in modern terms.
